And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel: 'Be strong and of good courage' (Deut 31:7)
So does Moshe our teacher z"l pass the leadership to Yehoshua. And he emphasizes to him "be strong" -- to stand up to the pressures -- and "be of good courage", that he be courageous in the face of the enemy. Because, And the LORD, He it is that doth go before thee; He will be with thee, He will not fail thee, neither forsake thee, and therefore fear not, neither be dismayed.
How can Moshe promise such a thing? Because he knows that as soon as the leader trusts in God, and makes God his support -- then he will receive help from above, and will neither fail nor be embarrassed. But the most important: that he not be afraid, rather trust in the Rock of the universe, Who will help him in time of need.
We too -- when we trust in God and don't fear our enemies, rather do what is necessary and eject every enemy from our borders, then we will merit Heavenly help and will be neither embarrassed nor shamefaced. May God grant courage to our leaders' hearts, and strengthen them to do His will, may He be blessed.
