It was a hectic week for us. Esther was finishing up things preparing for her trip. Sarah was finishing up things on her classmate’s film project. I was finishing things up preparing a bid on a job. Lots of finishing up.

Esther went off to Argentina for a week and a half. Her mother is having a ‘big’ birthday, so the family is throwing a party; thus, Esther is away in the Southern hemisphere. She only arrived there yesterday, so she’s doubtless jet-lagged right now. We hope she has a great time, and thinks of us often. I had to console myself with a fried-chicken dinner. I know she’d understand…

Sarah is finally done with her very stressful project. It was stressful because she’s (somewhat surprisingly) organized and responsible, and nobody else on the project was. So she became more and more frustrated as the project progressed. As I’ve always told my girls, “people are the problem”. Fortunately, she’s done her part and can enjoy some fine wine on shabbat!

I was recently contacted by a former boss of mine, who wants me to do a project for him. So after some discussions, he asked me to come up with a bid. I did that, and just submitted it — we’ll see what comes of it after he recovers. Additionally, I’ve been working on getting 8th ready for my embedded 8th project, as well as the (by now) usual hour or two a day working the social networks and sending cold-call emails and so forth.

Highlights:

  • It should be “reality TV”, but sadly it’s just reality: America gets to choose between Hillary and Donald. (People are the problem) Nice knowing you, America.
  • A software upgrade destroys a 286-million dollar satellite. Oops.
  • Apple is going too far and being too invasive. Removing your customer’s property without their permission is not cool.
  • And my email program (Thunderbird) just gave me a creepy message: “This body part will be downloaded on demand”. I hope they don’t mean that literally.

The A/C technician finally did show up, after several delays due to the part required not being in stock. He was here 20 minutes and now, presumably, the A/C is fixed. However, ever since he showed up several weeks ago, it’s been working just fine — so we won’t necessarily know that it’s been fixed, though it does work at the moment.

Of course, that’s immaterial for us this week, since the weather’s been very nice and is scheduled to remain nice (and below seasonal temperatures) for the next several days. Yay! It’s actually kind of cold right now.

Sorry, I gotta run and get stuff ready for shabbat. I know you understand!

Sarah and I are roughing it for shabbat. We’ll have a “dairy shabbat”:
grilled salmon, grilled eggplant “steaks”, grilled tofu, Tepperberg Impression Chardonnay 2014 (there you go, Fred), teḥina, yam-and-bean cholent, stir-fry veggies, lentil salad, coleslaw, egg salad, potato salad, pear-apple-crumble, and chocolate.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
