Another week, another weird trick!

This time around, Sarah got checked again and the doctor said whatever she might have wasn’t in his field. So she’s still looking.

Jeremy’s become famous: one of his cousins is an author who mentioned him in an article in HaAretz this week. So we have to purchase the paper (though it hurts me…)

We’ve all been just working. Nothing much to report

Stuff and nonsense:

  • Netflix has decided it’s OK to sexualize children. Really disturbing stuff: Netflix is trash.
  • DC Comics has taken a stand. “Women of color take aim at Trump and real injustice”. What?
  • If you’re wondering why Israelis keep Netanyahu in power, read on.
  • The brouhaha over “pilgrimages” to Uman is getting more raucous. I say: if you feel you need to spend Rosh HaShana in a Gentile land, praying at the grave of someone who might not even be buried there, you might as well just convert out and be done with it.
  • Ambassador Oren writes that the UAE-Israel announcement proves the folly of warming to Iran. Indeed, we have to praise the Obama administration for being so inept it actually forced the more “moderate” Arab states to seek alliance with Israel against Iran. Or maybe that was Obama’s 5D chess strategy all along?

Tech stuff:

  • “Blockchain” is an amazing solution for almost nothing.
  • Remember how solar energy is great for the environment? Maybe not so much. As I’ve mentioned before, you need to assess the total life-cycle costs (mining/manufacturing/upkeep/disposal). Solar panels aren’t as good as they’re claimed to be.
  • A rather bizarre way to make a high-entropy passphrase.

There’s a lot going on in the world, but I don’t have the energy this morning to discuss it. So next week, maybe…

We’re scheduled to have a very hot shabbat, and the heat will be around for a week more or less. So cool drinks all around!

This shabbat we’ll have:
homemade ḥalla, barbecued chicken-breast, potato salad, various salatim, and creamy chocolate pie.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
