One fine morning, at 05:30, we were rudely awakened because the Houthis, may they be permanently cursed with scabies, dropsy, and diverticulitis, decided to send a missile our way. We didn’t get the usual “heads-up” alarm; instead, the city air-raid sirens started shrieking, as did our phones. Bastards.

To confound the devils, I donated blood and did some Talmudic Rituals™. The IDF did some things, too.

Those of you confused about (or simply unaware of) the “E1” kerfuffle are invited to watch this fellow’s explanation of what it’s all about. It’s right around the corner from us, figuratively speaking.

Various:

I had planned another nerd project: building a “heat gun”. Because, you see, (once more, for the folks in the back!) I’m cheap, have most of the parts, and… it’s simply fun to make things! However, upon sober reflection, I decided it might be a bit too dangerous to just whack together something which could potentially burn down the house. Besides, I didn’t have some crucial parts; so I ordered the least expensive heat-gun I could find which (supposedly) does what I want. Devastated!

I also discovered that ordering electronic components from AliExpress is cheaper and quicker than ordering via Amazon (and needless to say, cheaper than getting locally if I can even find the bits locally). What I don’t understand is how AliExpress actually makes money; though to be honest, I don’t particularly care.

The weather was as delightful as summer weather gets here in the ME, and it should stay nice through shabbat and into the week. Bonus!

This shabbat, our menu mostly likely contains:
homemade ḥalla, za`atar chicken, potato salad, roasted vegetables, various salatim, egg salad, and mango ice-cream.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
