Hi, again!
A typical Israeli week combining incredible highs and desperate lows. We went to the airport to greet three hundred-sixty new immigrants, among them good friends of ours from Seattle. And just yesterday terrorists launched a well planned attack just north of Eilat, killing at least eight and wounding at least thirty. Our peace partners, you know?
Bear with me a moment while I get this off my chest, then I'll move on to happier topics. Our leaders have persisted in the fallacious notion that our enemies think like them, that they just "want to live in peace". Unfortunately, it is not true -- not even slightly true. The reason we continue to have these "attacks" is because our enemies are not terrified of us. We need -- we must -- make our enemies so fearful of us that the idea of attacking us leaves them quivering in horror. The proper response to the ongoing terror from Gaza is simple and brutal: issue an ultimatum that they disarm immediately, or die. If they disarm immediately and completely, fine; if they don't, flatten Gaza and leave no stone standing upon another. This is the most humane thing we can do.
The highlight of our week was going to the airport to welcome the new ʿolim. Three hundred-sixty new immigrants, one hundred four of whom made ʿaliyah specifically to join the IDF. About a third were children of various ages. Here's the documentary proof that we were there (with our friends)! Welcome home, ʿolim!
It should have been a calm week at work, since so many of my co-workers were taking vacation time, and two of the bosses were in the US on business. But because they were there and I was here, and they had to make presentations to our current and future customers -- I had to support them, which turned out to be as stressful as you can imagine. But B"H, the presentations went off well and I suppose everyone is happy. More next week, B"H...
Around the bend:
- Ramadan crime wave in Israel
- The US helps pay terrorists in Israeli jails.
- From here, you will witness the final destruction of the Tea Party and the end of your insignificant rebellion!
- Nobody is surprised that the Jerusalem light-rail is delayed. Again.
- Sneaky Jooos plan mass infertility of Egyptians
- And someone "gets it"
B"H this shabbat we've got quite a crowd over for dinner. Our friends the Casdens, and new friends who just made aliyah this week; the eleven of us will partake of:
deviled eggs,
various salatim,
baked chicken,
meatballs,
rice,
carrot kugel,
eggplant,
Israeli salad,
teḥina,
ḥamin,
spice cake,
ice cream,
fruit salad
Until next week,
shabbat shalom!
