This week I was heavily engaged in genealogy. Jeremy uncovered a whole pile of “new” relatives on my father’s side of the tree. And by “whole pile” I mean, literally, hundreds of people. I’m still working on entering all he found in my various genealogical sites. It’s a lot of work.

Along the way, I’ve been in contact with sixth-cousins. The most distant I’d ever been in contact with before were third-cousins-once-removed. These guys are related to me way, way back, around 1800. So that’s been interesting.

We celebrated Israel’s 76th Independence Day with a BBQ and beer, but no fireworks. The gov’t didn’t put on their usual air-force fly-overs either, though we had heard them practicing last week. Everything was very much toned-down from prior years; understandable, given the “situation”.

Of note:

I maintain several genealogy sites because each has something different to offer in terms of research. However, using multiple sites has made me appreciate the need for tools to make maintaining them easier. I’m giving this some serious thought. The big sites are not particularly interested in making it easier (and a cousin of mine, a genealogist, confirms that). I’ve got some ideas…

I’m off to see a physical therapist for my shoulder, which has been painful for most of a year. Hopefully some good will come of it, though at this point I’m not holding out much hope. “Better living through chemistry!”, as DuPont used to say!

The weather was very pleasant this week, but it’s warming for shabbat. Not super hot, but it’ll stay with us for a good chunk of time.

This shabbat we’re invited out for one meal; for the rest:
homemade ḥalla, stuffed veggies, noodles, various salatim, and ḥawayaj cookies.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
