This week we decided to try to tackle our ever-expanding “Birds of paradise” plant. It’s been steadily growing and encroaching on the limited space it has, and something needed to be done.
The garden experts told us to dig it up and split the plant. That would be fine, but there’s little room to dig, and there are water pipes right next to the plant which I am a bit hesitant to operate near.
So we chose instead to trim it back all around the base. I spent close to two hours this week doing just that, and only got half of it done. Next week’s another week, I guess…
Various and sundry:
- A “City Journal” article on Unscientific American. The sad decline of an American institution.
- Asteroid named after my favorite YouTube physicist.
- More physics: a new study suggests “warp drives” may be possible. Someday, that is.
- And almost as useless as Biden: the new Swiss Army Knife will be missing a blade. Because I suppose the Swiss Army hasn’t needed a blade in quite some time.
On the uselessness of Biden there is much to say. However, I choose instead to dwell on his fecklessness and willingness to hobble allies in the midst of war. Make no mistake: Biden and his posse are extremely bad for the Jews — whether in Israel or in America; not to mention his disastrous effects on the US and the world at large. I have been searching in vain for adequate words to express my disgust; instead, I have to resort to spitting in impotent rage.
And while spitting… well, chewing, really… one of my crowns thoughtfully detached itself from the tooth on which it precariously perched. This is the third or fourth time this crown has detached, and the dentist informed me I should get a new one made. So that’s some fun I can look forward to in about two weeks.
Esther’s chosen this preposterously hot day to go to Jerusalem. Fortunately, she did most of the cooking yesterday, and I’ve only got to make the dessert and some sides. The weather will be roasting hot today, but cooling to below average during shabbat and into the week. Weird spring weather in the ME!
This shabbat we’ve got:
homemade ḥalla,
“Korean BBQ” style chicken,
potato kugel,
roasted vegetables,
various salatim,
and banana cake.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
