Mom update: I checked Mom into the hospital on Sunday, she had the operation on Monday morning, and has spent the week there. I’ve spent the week going back and forth from home to the hospital. The result so far is that the surgeons were satisfied that they didn’t have to take off more than they expected, and Mom is recovering well.

She is supposed to return home on Sunday, assuming nothing surprising occurs. The main thing she’ll have to remember is that she cannot step on the front of the affected foot until it heals completely. I anticipate her forgetting that, repeatedly…

What’re all the cool-kids saying?

  • We all like the convenience of “fingerprint readers” on our mobile devices. But here’s how your fingerprint can be hacked for $5. Even the CIA can afford that.
  • The US Treasury is purchasing private app data to target and investigate people. What, me worry?
  • Here’s why so many people got (and still get) the “Rittenhouse story” so wrong.
  • A long but interesting podcast from “Ruthless”: “Lawless Libs”, discussing (among other things) how the rule of law is being dismantled.
  • An excellent, thought-provoking article by Kevin Williamson: “Roe v. Me”.
  • It’s Black Friday, ’70s style!

Esther has been busy trying to get things organized in BsAs while also fielding calls from her Israeli boss and spending time with her family. While she’s sorely missed here, it’s good she was able to make the trip to take care of those things which need care.

Since I won’t be at home most of Friday, I’m writing this on Thursday night while preparing the shabbat food. I also have imposed on friends for one meal. It’s good to have that option!

My menu this shabbat is very lazy:
store-bought mini-pita, roasted chicken, roasted potatoes and yams, various purchased salatim, and lemon-poppy cake.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
