We took delivery of our new bed this week, and reclaimed our room. I never thought I would say this, but having a good bed really does make a difference. Considering we spend a third of our lives abed, investing in a good one is worthwhile. In any event, I haven’t slept so well in, literally, years. Both of us are very pleased!
We’re also getting geared-up for Sarah and Yarin’s upcoming nuptials; and here I need to make a disclaimer:
Her event will be very small, and there are not enough spaces to have invited everyone we would have liked to invite. So if you were not specifically invited, don’t take it personally! There will be a link to a “live stream” for anyone who would like to attend virtually from the comfort of home. If you are interested in such a link, please email me.
Daniela will be joining us in person, the week-of. And Esther’s mother will also be joining us. So it’s a good thing we’ve freed up the guest-rooms!
Around and around we go:
- Say what? A long-standing Linux vulnerability was recently patched. Do the needful!
- A COVID origin conspiracy? You be the judge.
- The “Whoopi Goldberg” kerfuffle demonstrates what happens when intersectionality rots people’s brains.
- Solana on our being prisoners of scale.
- University of Washington has published its IT Inclusive Language Guide. I think I’ll put them on my blacklist. Weep for the West.
- Should we bring back the “Doomsday Biscuit”? Most of you are too young to even have heard of it…
I’ve been working for a while now on a large project for a client, in the rôle of “software architect”. What that means, in practice, is that I’m responsible for pretty much everything software related. So I chose to migrate from PHP to 8th for the back-end processing core — I mentioned that in passing two weeks ago.
I told this to my client during one of our meetings this week, prompting him to ask, “and what if you get hit by a bus?”. Meaning: “how will I find someone to work in 8th?”. I’m happy to say I was able to find someone whose 8th skills I think are adequate to the task, and who is willing to be presented as a backup. 8th for the win!
The weather’s been cold, but mostly dry this week. Our weekend forecast is for rain, hail, and thunder (!) through shabbat. Sounds like a hot-chocolate day…
In honor of shabbat, we’ll have:
homemade ḥalla,
fesenjan,
saffron rice,
roasted veggies,
gravlax,
various salatim,
and date cake.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
