Hi, again!

Extraordinarily busy this week, as usual just before pesaḥ! Cleaning, fixing, shopping and working took up almost all our time, and now we're still working on getting ready for the holiday as well as for shabbat. B"H!

As is our tradition, my ḥevruta and his family will be joining us for the seder meal. Their job is to provide the maṣah and ours is to provide the rest of the vittles. We'll also be joined (B"H!) by Daniela, Jeremy and Jeremy's sister Ilana. The seder meal menu will include: maṣah ball soup, beet salad, carrot salad, leek patties, brisket with tsimmes, roasted chicken and assorted desserts (some courtesy of Jeremy's parents, thank you!). All this, besides the four-cups of wine, maṣah and crudités which are de-rigeur at any self-respecting seder meal!

Among other things this week I changed the front-door lock. Esther had been complaining for a month or more since I messed up the former lock by getting new keys. Besides that, the former lock required a key be left inside so the door could be locked (clearly, not intended as a normal entrance-lock). So I got a proper front-door lock and replaced the other one (which was fine, by the way...). It was a manly venture, but well met.

We made a run to the shuq before His Royal Highness visited. Shopping in Jerusalem before a holiday is hectic at the best of times, but we knew that the advent of The One would make traffic almost impassible in the Holy City. 15,000 security personnel were deployed to protect him and his entourage. Snipers were deployed at intersections, as well as riot police. Seriously, who do we think he is?

In celebration of his visit, the terrorists in Gaza sent a couple missiles into Israel, and the "moderates" in Ramallah protested his visit to their lovely city. What's not to love about the Arabs? Such cuddly people, such good mothers! Makes one want to deploy napalm liberally.

But fortunately, The Royal Visit is ending today, so we can look forward to a more peaceful shabbat. In other news, I have made significant progress on the new version of zemanim. Here is a sneak preview, which you can access from the comfort of your web-browser. It is a rough draft, and only has some features of the complete zemanim application. You will need to refresh (press F5, or just reload the page) after you answer the initial questions, in order for the page to display correctly. Also, it may not work in older browsers (Chrome will work, haven't tried others). Sorry, that's just the way it is for now. I welcome your comments and questions and suggestions!

This shabbat we're invited out for one meal. Seeing as how it's just before pesaḥ we are going with a diminished menu: roast with potatoes, baked salmon, salatim, green beans, chicken salad and honey cake.

Until next week,
shabbat shalom and ḥag sameaḥ!
