Good news: Sarah and Yarin managed to catch the last flight from IL to JP for their long-planned trip. Their original flight had been canceled due to the situation here, and the flight they were moved to is the last one for the foreseeable future (to Japan from here on ElAl). Because of that, they had to book a separate leg from JP to the US; fortunately, they’ll be able to stay with Daniela and Jeremy in NY. However, they don’t yet have a return flight to IL. At least they seem to be enjoying Japan, which is what the purpose of the trip was, after all!
In other good news: we had our first real rain since my roof-repair work… and we didn’t see any leaks! We’ll see if our luck holds out once a winter storm rolls in.
Various things:
- Once again, my friend hits the bullseye.
- Konstantin Kisin’s speech the world needs to hear.
- Various threads: 1) the state of the war, 2) on the lack of support from “friends”, 3) on international law and the Jabalia bombing.
- Salem Alketbi: Does America fear confronting Iran? The administration surely does.
- Hamas: we won’t stop until IL is annihilated. Also, a website documenting their atrocities (view on an empty stomach).
- On the Hebrew word for “cucumber” and how it came about.
Speaking of which, we tried out a new (to us) vegetable delivery service. It’s a farm that delivers “organic” produce to you, but the box of veg you get is mostly up to them. The price isn’t bad, and we got a reasonable box of fruits and vegetables. It’s a way to support local farmers while diversifying our diet with fresh produce. So far, so good; the veg is a lot better than what we get at Rami Levy, so there’s that.
The weather’s been too warm this week, but it’s cooled off a bit. We’re still in the grips of an autumnal heat-wave, however, and it will be above average for November this shabbat and for the next week. Grrr!
This shabbat our menu should include:
homemade ḥalla,
beet soup,
chicken curry,
barbecued chicken cutlets,
roasted vegetables,
eggplant bake,
various salatim,
and ice-cream.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom
May God grant strength and victory to our brave troops, and sorely needed wisdom to our leaders, amen!
