Despite everything going on, we try to continue leading our normal life. Esther and I both worked this week. I made another release of 8th.

We donated blood. There were a lot of people there, the staff were a mix of professionals and volunteers. I seem to have gotten all the volunteers, because nothing went smoothly (until the blood-letting, which flowed smoothly). Esther got all the pros, who detained her from donating until her pulse was determined to be sufficiently low. In the end, we both were able to donate; and surprisingly, didn’t get great huge bruises from the needles.

We also visited Sarah and Yarin in their native habitat, because they’re supposed to be heading on vacation soon. We found that parking at the “park-n-ride” near the airport, hopping on the free shuttle to Ramat Gan, and then taking the new (and excellent) train to their stop, is by far the best way to visit them. No half-hour of circling around trying to find a parking spot!

We even got to visit their “bomb shelter” during dinner…

Topical:

Esther still has difficulty understanding how Ms. Weiss (for example), who is obviously very intelligent, could ever not have seen reality for what it is. My explanation, which I think stands, is that when people have ideological glasses on, they cannot see anything which doesn’t align with those glasses. It takes a serious disruption, such as reality smacking them in the face, for those glasses to be shattered. A lot of glasses have been shattered over the past three weeks. The real question is: will people simply renew their old prescriptions, or will they get more realistic ones?

Both of us are alarmed (though unsurprised) by the extreme uptick in antisemitism in the USA. College students were told to “hide in attic” because they couldn’t be protected. I urge all my readers in the Diaspora to be very vigilant and take precautions, because the police can’t be everywhere.

And despite it all, I also strongly urge you to make aliyah as soon as possible. Hopefully that falls on ears somewhat less deaf than before 10/7.

We’re having a heat-wave which is preventing pleasant weather from appearing. It will be uncomfortably warm and humid over shabbat and into the coming week. Let us hope that’s all we have to worry about!

This shabbat our menu may include:
homemade ḥalla, lentil mushroom soup, chicken with herbs, roasted veg, meatloaf, various salatim, and brownies.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom

May God grant strength and victory to our brave troops, and sorely needed wisdom to our leaders, amen!
