January 19th
So this week has been pretty much a blur. Sunday, Esther and I spent the day preparing for my trip. Then Monday I flew out to the Seattle area to be with my mom. I landed on Monday, at least that’s what the itinerary said; I can’t remember much of that day.
The rest of my week was taken up with extensive preparations towards bringing Mom to Israel. It would be simple, you think: just buy an airline ticket and that’s it. Well, there is a lot more to deal with than you might imagine.
In any event, though the week was a bit fraught, a great deal of progress was made, and I’m hopeful we’ll be able to make the return trip in a couple weeks. We’ll let you know…
Some stuff of note:
- An attack against group messaging in WhatsApp and Signal
- It seems that Mars has lots of water, which (if true), could make missions there practical
- The death of expertise and why our opinions are not equally valid
- Why did Cathy Newman Lose to Jordan Peterson? One of the worst-executed “debates” I’ve ever seen, though worth seeing
- Project Veritas uncovers how Twitter personnel “shadow ban” people
While I’ve been enjoying Seattle’s “liquid sunshine”, Esther’s been preparing our home to make it comfortable for Mom. We’ve both had busy weeks.
This shabbat Esther is invited out for all meals, while I am preparing shabbat at my mother’s. Mom and I will have:
(homemade) pitot,
majadra,
noodle kugel,
coleslaw,
baked yams,
lox,
and pineapple.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
