Mom update 3.0: Because her situation didn’t progress or show improvement, the doctors finally decided (after much deliberation) to operate. They did a laparoscopic procedure and got rid of some “adhesions” which were causing the problems. I’m happy to say the procedure was a success, Mom recovered from it handily, and now she’s going to remain in the hospital until she’s fully recovered and is back to mostly normal.

I’m really very pleased with the medical care here.

But once again, I was not really able to do much else but go between home and the hospital all week. So nothing too exciting to report to you.

Various and sundry:

Israel has completed an upgraded barrier with the Gaza strip. An extremely expensive project, with all sorts of high-tech gadgetry to foil Hamas’ evildoers. The only problem is, as usual, the generals fight the last war.

This wall will work, for a while, to foil Hamas. But then it will cease working, because Hamas has tons of funding and the will to effect its destructive program. Walls can be scaled or tunneled under or otherwise circumvented. The right answer to Hamas isn’t a wall, it’s a barrage of artillery, hell-fire, and the ample use of D9s. Stupid, stupid, gov’t.

Esther has been busy Down South, but B”H! she’ll be coming back next Thursday. I cannot wait!

Once more unto the breach: since I won’t be at home most of Friday, I’m writing this on Thursday night while preparing the shabbat food. I’ve not imposed on, but rather have kindly accepted invitations from friends for one meal. It really is good to have that option!

Chef Ron has prepared this shabbat:
some sort of bread (TBD), squash-and-lentil soup, funky meat-loaf, roasted potatoes, roasted eggplant and peppers, coleslaw, a few remaining purchased salatim, and a dessert of some sort.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
