All kids, all the time!
I’m trying to recall just why we spent so much effort cleaning up the house in preparation for the (very much anticipated) arrival of the Grands. The house looks like a low-yield nuke was set off, every day. Still, the children are quite entertaining virtually all the time.
Gabe is really organized and craves order. He (and his sister as well) had a lot of fun doing craft projects with beads. I’m beginning to wonder about his actual math skills, though, since he claimed a necklace had “a thousand” beads on it.
Naomi is incredibly imaginative. So much so, we have trouble keeping up with her (on any level). She also seems to be made of rubber, which is disconcerting to say the least.
Master Joseph is pretty much the sweetest creature ever, almost always with a smile on his face. He is extremely observant, as we found out when he had discovered how to open the heavy trash-can lid and dispose of his brother’s cars.
They all (excepting Joseph) met up with Sarah one day and went to the Ramat Gan Safari, which was a big hit. Another day, the twins, their mother, and I, went to the Jerusalem Science Museum, which was somewhat less of a hit, though they did particularly enjoy scrambling around in the play area.
This morning they (all) have gone to Tel Aviv to visit Jeremy’s brother and dip their toes at the beach. We’ve got a few hours of quiet to prepare for shabbat, before they return.
Various and sundry:
- A Linux backdoor which may be serious.
- Toyota recalls electric cars. Why? Because they might lose their wheels. I could be wrong, but I had always thought wheels not coming off was covered in “Automobiles 101”.
- A (gay) man on “gay rights” and LGBTQ+-~etc: “No homo”.
- The person behind “Libs of TikTok” on the violent threats she’s received.
- Mallen’s thoughtful comments on what everyone gets wrong about the US abortion debate.
- Israel is #1! We’re heading to our fifth election in three and a half years! Woo-hoo!!! Just in time for the projected Iran war.
We ordered sushi the other day, and were outraged that the Grands consumed a huge portion of it. I should have ordered another couple platters, some soup, maybe some sides. It’s a challenge to keep them fueled up! We’ll do better next time…
Esther and I did manage to do some work this week (I did a lot, actually), because next week we’re “on vacation” and won’t be doing paid work. We’re taking over the parental tasks for two days so Daniela and Jeremy can escape. Our plan is to thoroughly spoil the children by the time their parents return.
The weather has been stable, summer (32C average) heat, and will probably remain that way for a while. Perfect weather!
After seeing how ravenous the Grands can be, we’ve needed to take precautionary measures. So our shabbat menu this week includes:
home-made ḥalla,
lamb roulade,
pargiot,
lots of other sides,
various salatim,
and baklawa.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
