The Grands and their parental units arrived safe and sound, B”H!

Though they were renting a car at the airport, we nevertheless went to help them with their overflow of luggage. Traveling with three small children isn’t a walk in the park (though it apparently wasn’t as difficult as they had feared: and it must be said, the tykes are mostly well-behaved).

We greeted them after they had cleared Customs (as is our custom), and Jeremy and the twins went with Esther to get his rental car, while Daniela, the baby, and I went to my car. We figured it was probably a good idea for one of us to travel back with them, just to make sure they didn’t have navigation issues.

Anyway, long story short: my car had a flat. Fortunately, my father a”h had larned me what to do in such a situation, and in short order I had put on the spare. But — and this is ironic — the spare was mostly flat as well. The ironic-er part is that yesterday I had considered that I probably should ensure the spare was full. Anyway, we slowly went our way to a local gas-station and filled the spare. Then we very slowly made our way back home.

Being passed by every slow-moving vehicle is a frustrating experience, but B”H! we all made it back in one piece.

I had thought the kids (the grand-kids, that is) would be shy and a bit distant for a day or so. Not so. After the first few minutes, they warmed up; and once home, they decided saba would make a terrific jungle-gym. So after a mere few hours with them, I was completely drained of all energy while they were still rarin’ to go. I don’t understand how this is even possible, but there you have it. They barely slept on the flight, and didn’t even take a nap after they got here. I’ve had a full night’s sleep, and I can barely stay awake!

Then, we discovered that Master Joseph eats with a zeal and a passion rarely encountered amongst non-gourmands. We may need to get a second refrigerator to handle the load. Not that the twins are pikers by any means, but he puts them to shame. Luckily, he has one of the most pleasant dispositions of anyone I’ve ever met, and he’s incredibly cute to boot!

We’ll give them all a few days to acclimate. Speaking of the climate, it will be warmer than usual over shabbat, but cooling at the start of the week, hopefully.

I anticipate an “in-shabbat” this week; I scarcely have the stamina to finish writing this…

We’ve got a hungry crew to feed this shabbat, so we’ll feast upon:
home-made ḥalla, schintzel, baked chicken, traditional cholent, baked potatoes, eggplant “imam bayildi”, more sides, many various salatim, and cake.
