What’s been happening? Well, I’ll tell you!

My car saga continued this week. As mentioned last week, we sought out an electrician to diagnose and repair the battery drain. Well, he did: it turns out the former owner had installed the aftermarket radio incorrectly, and it was always on (even when off), so it was draining the battery. So says the electrician. He also replaced the broken driver-side mirror. The final bill was almost entirely the cost of that stupid mirror; absolutely stunningly expensive replacement part.

Then, as previously mentioned, we had had a roofing contractor come out to repair the various leaks, and they did come and do a lot of work. However, this week we noticed a leak (one of our perpetuals: a “summer-only” leak), and called them. They were “going to come over”; but, so far, no show. At least it’s a dry leak.

And further: my nose had been bleeding; and, as previously noted, I had undergone cauterization to try and stop it, but it appears that I’ll have to have a repeat performance. I’m so looking forward to it!

Esther and I were both working this week. I, in particular, was working two jobs: my own, and that of the (software) contractors we fired. In one week, I’ve accomplished more than they did in over a month. I really need to increase my rates! I also made a major release of 8th. So: busy, as usual.

To make up for last week’s lack of “content”:

We’re on tenterhooks waiting for Daniela and family to arrive this coming week! We have tried to think of everything we’ll need, and have stocked the house with plenty of intoxicants and sharp objects (that was a joke, Daniela!). Today, since we’ve been invited out for dinner, we’ve got less shabbat-prep to do. So we’ll make a “baby-proofing-pass” through the house, attempting in vain to make the house Safe For Children. Regardless of our efforts, I’m quite certain they’ll find all sorts of ways to get in trouble. It is what kids do, after all!

The weather’s been pretty pleasant, on the standard side of warm for summer in the ME. We’re expecting a slight cooling for shabbat and into the beginning of the week. No forecast yet for the Grands’ visit, except sunny dispositions and no clouded expressions!

We’re invited out for one shabbat meal; for the rest, we’ll have:
home-made ḥalla, meatloaf, roasted yams and potatoes, mushroom quiche, various salatim, and chocolate-chip cookies.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
