Incredibly, nothing Iran-related of note to report thus far this week! We’`re “back to normal”: I spent some hours doing gardening, much to my body’s dismay. Esther went in to work as usual, taxes were paid.

The “highlight” of the week, if you care to call it that, is my ongoing battle against rodentia. You’ll perhaps recall my tale of woe, fighting the good fight against those long-tailed creeps. I thought I’d vanquished them, but a peek under the stairs proved me wrong.

I tried a few things this week and thought I’d succeeded. But no, the rat-bastards somehow keep getting in that space. So I had an inspired idea: why not use some old cell-phones I’ve got, as “security cameras”? It turns out there’s an app for that! So I resuscitated an old phone and put it in the afflicted space.

Then I waited anxiously for “events” to be recorded.

The next day, I caught a rodent “in the act”, figured out where they were entering, patched up the area (I thought), and set out to record more “events”. Sadly, the next day there were two of the buggers on video!

So I went and plastered up the entire ingress area. Now I’m waiting for confirmation of success (or the opposite). #ThoughtsAndPrayers!

Of note:

I started a series of “shiurim (classes) on Zoom this week, related to Rambam’s “Mishne Torah”. They went OK, but since I used the free Zoom setup, I only had 40 minutes and the shiur got cut off before it was done. This coming week, I’ve paid Zoom so that won’t happen. Everyone is welcome to join, but you do need to check the links on the page each week, since they will be different each time.

For our anniversary (no, I won’t tell you just how many years Esther’s put up with me), we went out for a very nice breakfast in Jerusalem, at Gan Sipur. Highly recommend if you’re in Jerusalem!

We skipped lunch, but for dinner we got some excessively big steaks, grilled them on the BBQ, and accompanied them with a nice wine and sides. So I lied: the rodents weren’t actually the “highlight” of the week; but you knew that, I hope!

This shabbat, we’re looking to have:
ḥalla, barbecued chicken, potato salad, coleslaw, roasted veggies, various salatim, and cookies.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
