Happy birthday Sarah!
Well, it was certainly an interesting week…
We started the week witnessing the overthrow of the Assad regime in Syria, the end of a 50-year long horror-story for Syrians. Unfortunately, the ones who accomplished that feat were mostly Al-Qaeda affiliates. So we’ve no idea what the ultimate outcome will be in SY, but it isn’t likely to be a lot better; the names change, the inhumanity remains the same.
But we (Israel) took advantage of the chaos to seize complete control of Mount Hermon, a strategically crucial location. We also commenced to — pardon the expression — beat the absolute shit out of the SY military resources. There is no more SY army, navy, or air-force. So regardless of who comes out on top of the Syrian dog-pile, IL isn’t at the same level of risk it could have been (or was, before). That’s a very good outcome for us.
The A/C installer mentioned last week showed up on time and brought helpers, all his tools, and all the equipment he needed. Then he started installing the unit and realized the outdoor unit wasn’t one that matched the indoor unit; so, he spent time rounding up the correct part, though it didn’t arrive until late in the day after he’d left.
But he installed the indoor part, and — incredibly! — they patched the wall where they’d had to break into it, and they cleaned up after themselves. They didn’t ask for a ladder or anything, incredible! The following morning they returned to install the outdoor unit, which they did in about 20 minutes. We’ve got A/C!
Various:
- The current Pope is an ass.
- Boxer Floyd Mayweather attacked by a mob in London over his support for Jews. Well, at least he knows how to defend himself.
- An IDF reservist’s top ten takeaways after returning from Gaza.
I made the last release of the year of “8th”, and started our year-end sale as well. I also released the zemanim application, with source-code, for all platforms except iOS, which I hope will be released shortly.
It was a busy week, and we’re glad it’s done. Next week we’re off to see the Grands et al., and looking forward to it with bated breath! An entire suitcase of “stuff” is solely for them, which is a bit excessive, I think. Anyway, next week’s blog will be sent from the Goldene Medina.
The weather was relatively warm for the season, so we didn’t feel the need to use the A/C except to ensure it works. It does!
This shabbat we’re out for one meal, and have guests for another. We’ll partake of:
homemade ḥallah,
baked chicken,
roasted potatoes,
various salatim,
and cake.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
