This week’s irritating adventure: I drove all the way to Ḥadera to get flour to make matza, a three-and-a-half-hour round-trip. Once back home, I checked the flour packages and it turned out I had not mentioned to the seller I wanted KLP (kosher for passover) flour! A waste of half a day, since I can’t use the flour I got. I talked to the seller, and they’ll try to arrange a swap in the next week; if they can’t, I’ll have to make the trip again since I do need the flour.

“Stupid is, as stupid does…”

Antisemitism is not just “acceptable” now: it looks like it’s becoming required. While Amazon’s new policy requiring “Prime” vendors to provide 6-day service may not be specifically antisemitic, it is adversely affecting religious Jews in particular. That’s nothing, though, compared to the recent spate of hate from the likes of NBC. The “Saturday Night Live” show — which once upon a time was funny — had no problem airing a frankly antisemitic segment. That same network, on the show “Nurses”, aired an even more egregiously antisemitic segment.

Things are not “good for the Jews” in the Goldene Medina. And I’m afraid this is the tip of the iceberg. Once antisemitism is “mainstreamed” like this, history shows bad things are inevitably going to happen. It’s time to leave.

Whirled news:

  • Well, that didn’t take long at all! More than two dozen House Democrats want Biden to relinquish sole authority to launch nuclear weapons. I think you all know why…
  • “Dominion” — the voting-machine company — is making good on their threat to sue Mike Lindell (the “MyPillow” guy) for defamation. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, though it looks like their suit has some strength.
  • “Disney Plus” is now presenting disclaimers before airing episodes of The Muppet Show. Because that’s how stupid the world has become.
  • There’s a new malware affecting Macs, which has experts stumped as to its purpose.
  • And Matt Walsh has some relationship advice for the Reddit crowd. Just in time for Purim.

So Purim is happening! But our gov’t has indeed implemented restrictions as I had thought they would. If you’re in Israel and celebrating Purim, let me know if you’re following the restrictions, or if you (like many, I expect) are going to use your own judgement…

In any event, because Purim falls on Friday, we’ve had to make preparations for shabbat on Thursday.

This week we made a “test order” of organic produce from Ben’s Farm, since they deliver to our area. Though the delivery took place rather late in the evening, the produce was exceptionally good! I’m very impressed: if you’re in the Jerusalem area, check them out.

The weather’s been pleasant, somewhat cloudy with a touch of rain now and then. It’s supposed to remain about the same this coming week.

In honor of shabbat:
homemade ḥalla, potato-leek soup, fennel-roasted chicken, roasted yellow beets, lots of various veggies, many salatim, and “muffintaschen”.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
