We were, once again, quite busy this week. I saw my GP at the start of the week, because I wanted to know if there was anything I could do about my painful jaw and my dizziness. So she sent me for some blood tests, gave an “urgent” referral for PT for the dizziness, and another referral for a “mouth and jaw” specialist.

She suggested I go to the office at the clinic to try to get the PT as soon as possible, and to get information about the other specialists. The office took my name and number, and said they’d pass on my PT request to the person who’s responsible for the scheduling, who would “get back to me tomorrow”. They also gave me a list of doctors affiliated with the clinic, who deal with jaw stuff.

At home, I called the hospital where some of the specialists work. They told me I have to have a referral from my clinic’s “mouth doctor”. Which, I had assumed, the office would have told me about. Anyway, the hospital gave me the name and number of my clinic’s doctor. The wrong name, and an invalid number. So that was fun. I called the clinic’s “hotline” and got the correct name and number, and was told that the doctor is only at the office on Wednesdays, between 10 and 14…

In the meantime, a day passed and the one who was supposed to “get back to me” did not. Fortunately, the clinic chose that very time to send me a survey asking how satisfied I was with “the service I received”. The answer: “not very”, accompanied by some choice words.

The next day, the clinic’s person who apparently reads the surveys (!) called me and asked exactly what was wrong. I told her, and she did actually help me get an appointment with PT in a relatively short time-frame. It turns out that bitching at them does (sometimes) work.

I managed to contact the once-a-week doctor’s office, who told me I might be able to get in next week. I asked if she could give me a firm appointment next month while we wait to see if the “pencilled-in” one would occur; she told me the doctor hadn’t yet given her the schedule for next month. Sigh. But then she called back to tell me a spot opened up that day, and so we went.

The doctor basically told me my jaw pain is muscular, and gave me a powerful NSAID to deal with it, along with some exercises. We’ll see…

Stuff and nonsense:

Nerd’s corner: one project I was anticipating working on was creating a “bench power supply” from an old PC power supply. Sadly, the specific supply I was going to use turned out to be defective, so I’ve had to rework my project to use a different supply (which I tested, and which works) instead. Since the supply is a different sort with different outputs, I needed to get some more bits and pieces, which AliExpress is happy to send my way. More, when that project is underway.

My final complaint: morons keep asking me for “an app” for the Mechon-Mamre site. I mean, it’s a website. There’s no “app”, there’s not going to ever be an app (unless somebody with more money than brains wants to fund its development). I don’t understand people, most of the time, and that’s the truth!

shabbat will apparently see the coolest temperatures of the week (or the following week), though still 3C above average. It’s been a warm February here (NY is jealous).

This shabbat we’ll cook up:
homemade ḥalla, pargiot, slow cooked ribs, rice or potatoes, roasted veggies, various salatim, and “just cake” with strawberries.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
