January 13th

This was a pretty busy week in the Aaron household. We started with the news that during shabbat, Ariele and Chaim became parents to a bouncing baby boy — mazal tov! The baby made his appearance at 23:55, missing my (Gregorian) birthday by just five minutes! He weighed in at 2.89 kg (6.36 lbs), and mother and baby (and father) are doing well, B”H!

Since the baby was born on shabbat, the brit-milah (circumcision) will also be done on shabbat. For those of you who may be confused by that, thinking that it would be forbidden to perform a minor non-life-threatening surgery on shabbat, you’re perfectly correct. However, in the specific case of brit-milah, the Torah commands it be performed on the eighth-day, so unless there is a medical reason to prevent it, a brit-milah is performed on shabbat if that’s the eighth day.

One evening we met up with our mehutanim (e.g. the parents of our son-in-law Jeremy) at a nice Jerusalem restaurant. We had a very pleasant visit and meal, and hope they’ll come back soon!

Another evening, Esther took me out on a date for my birthday. We went to see a play: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time at our local “cultural center” here in the holy city of Ma’ale Adummim. We enjoyed a sushi dinner beforehand, and then went to the play. I can’t remember the last time I went to a play, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. In particular, I was fascinated by the stage-work and how the set was used. Well worth the entry fee, I think.

In good news: Sarah interviewed with a local video production company and after two interview sessions, was accepted to take on “on demand” jobs for them. She’ll get to work on her own time and make extra money while gaining practical experience. Go, Sarah!

Things of note:

So for those of you who don’t know, my birthday mo’ed lasts until Jan 29th (or 2 Shevat). My collection plate is still available, for those of you who wish to demonstrate your generosity!

I’ve been too busy with paying work to make a lot of progress towards the next 8th release. My users are starting to get restless. I’ll try to make the release this coming week, B”H. Big changes! Very good stuff! (channeling my inner Trump)

As a result of the upcoming brit-milah, Esther and I will be spending shabbat in Jerusalem. Sarah will be holding down the Aaron fort in our stead, since she has to work on Friday until fairly late. She’s been invited out, but at home she’ll have:
homemade ḥalla, fried tofu, roasted potatoes, green salad, various salatim, and fruit.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
