This week, as a bonus prize, my lovely wife also ensickened, while I haven’t gotten better. We spent the week blowing our noses. At this point I believe I can say with some authority that the human body is composed of about 85% mucous, with the remainder being sore bones.

Not that any of that stopped us from enjoying the Grands and the rest of the family!

We did, however, “take it easy” lest we slip and slide on our mucous trails. Our original plans of taking a “mini vacation” have, of course, been delayed to some far future date.

Among other things, I went to purchase Sudafed at CVS. Fortunately, Jeremy went with me — because I was required to present some form of US identification, and hadn’t thought to bring my passport. They couldn’t enter my Israeli drivers’ licence info into their terminal, so Jeremy stepped up and presented his licence.

And just so you know: the difference between real Sudafed and over-the-counter Sudafed PE, is that “PE” stands for “Piece of Excrement”.

What’s going on?

Daniela tasked us to pick up some groceries. Since Jeremy was working from home, we took his car. As we approached within a few blocks of home, indicators suddenly started lighting up on the dashboard. We managed to get home, but could detect a burning smell.

Jeremy had the car towed to his Honda specialist, and we’re hoping to hear it was just something simple like one of the car’s computers spazzing out. We probably won’t know until later Friday, because they won’t be able to check it out until Friday morning. Pretty scary stuff, to be honest.

This is our last shabbat at Daniela’s (for a while, anyway). Among other things, the menu includes:
homemade ḥalla, grandma’s eggplant, squash with chickpeas, roasted chicken with olives and dates, roasted broccoli and carrots, split pea soup, cold-cuts and veggies with dip, various salatim, and birthday cake…

… because my secular-calendar birthday is this shabbat.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
