Happy anniversary to Esther and me, and to Daniela and Jeremy! Every time our anniversary rolls around I consider how lucky I am to have a forgiving wife, and how lucky she is to have married a Real Man™ who knows how to cook and fix things!

What’s new this week (besides the anniversaries)? Not a whole lot. I made an amazing sourdough-caraway-rye (yes, mother, it’s rye bread). I finally got the irrigation stuff straightened out for the most part, after getting rid of all the old line. Esther received a couple basil plants for some charity thing, so I transplanted them and hope the irrigation keeps them alive long enough for us to eat them. Shut up, it’s the circle of life!

The “threat” of “annexation” came and went, without results on the ground. As I predicted, Bibi’s not really going to do anything but talk. I’d like to be wrong about that, by the way, but my Increasing Cynicism is overriding my Petulant Optimism.

The USA is devolving ever further into some sort of fusion of “Lord of the Flies” and “1984”. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t even want to think about what’s liable to happen there, soon. Although there is some good news: at least Seattle finally disbanded CHAZ/CHOP/upCHUCK. Now the lawsuits begin.

A few things:

  • Israeli leaders need to learn to speak “palestinese” if they hope to resolve our issues. One of my pet peeves is how our “enlightened” leaders think everyone wants the same things. It just ain’t so.
  • In more chilling “1984” (or actually PRC 2020) news: the founder of “Gab” has been blocked by VISA for “hate speech”. He should sue the crap out of them, and take it to the Supreme Court on appeal if he loses.
  • And “Pollyanna” was not a Pollyanna. I never even knew there was a movie, I’ll have to watch it now.

What else? Well, I’ve been working to finalize another release of 8th, fixing outstanding bugs. But one of the bugs is in a library I use, and so I contacted its author to report the issue. Turns out he’s sailing on the Adriatic and won’t be back in his office until Monday… lucky bastard!

The weather was warm. Well, it’s summer now, isn’t it? It will stay warm to hot until November.

This shabbat the menu includes: homemade ḥalla, turkey “shawarma”, “laHmajin”, rice, various salatim, and fruit.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
