A question, in light of the recent official revelations of “UFO” activity. Given that we haven’t yet (to my knowledge) been contacted by any extraterrestrial beings (aka: aliens), nor have we found any evidence of them in the cosmos, despite having searched for many decades, the question is “why?”.
“Why”, that is, do we seem to be quite alone amongst the approximately 200 billion solar systems just in our own galaxy?
This is the crux of the Fermi paradox, and there are quite a few possible answers to it; but that still leaves the question as to “why?”.
“Why”, or rather, “for what purpose”, are we stuck on a planet in an out-of-the-way solar system, seemingly unique in our galaxy (if not all the billions of galaxies).
From a religious standpoint one might argue we were the only intelligent life created; certainly, that’s one possible reading of the Creation story in Genesis. So that makes the question even more pointed: for what purpose did the Almighty create a universe positively brimming with solar systems, in which a large proportion of the planets around them are likely capable of supporting life as we know it?
I’ll leave you with that question, hoping you’ll send me your answers; I’ll report my own notions next week, B”H.
Various and sundry:
- USAn Jews: pay attention, please, to what your Dem congress-critters are saying and doing. It’s looking bad and worse.
- No, I’m not done yet: McKinney’s tweet just highlights the problem. There’s something rotten in the State of the Union.
- Apparently not satisfied merely with genocide of Uyghers, the CCP discussed race-specific bioweapons. Yeah, get yourself another pair of Nikes.
- And good ‘ole Amazon keeps improving their tech. Now they can track your trip to the grocery and back. Creeped out yet?
Sarah and Yarin signed a new lease this week, having found a place very close to where they’re currently living. So congratulations are in order!
Someone mentioned “gondi” this week, and I remembered I liked it a lot when I had it some four decades ago. So — as is my wont – I became obsessed with the idea of having it for shabbat, making Esther’s eyes roll up in her head with exasperation. Therefore, it’s on this week’s menu; the big problem is that every recipe I’ve seen is different, so I don’t know how it’ll turn out. Wish all of us luck (especially Esther)!
It’s been a hot week here in the Land, but shabbat is supposed to be even hotter. It’ll be in the mid-to-upper 30s here in our fair town. Supposedly, the heat will subside on Sunday…
This shabbat we’ll look forward to:
homemade ḥalla,
gondi,
roasted vegetables,
basmati rice,
various salatim,
cantaloupe,
and cookies.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
