Among other things, this week included the fast of “Tisha Be’Av”, which commemorates the destruction of both Temples (among other disasters). We are enjoined to diminish joy from the start of this (Hebrew) month, and to mourn the Destruction. But as someone pointed out recently, “Today I am mourning that in many ways it feels that we have lost the desire to mourn the Destruction.” To which my reply was, “More that we can’t appreciate what we’ve lost since the Destruction”.
It’s difficult for us to grasp; and it occurs to me that we’re about as distant, chronologically, from Rambam, as he was from the Sages’ finalizing the Talmud (and they lived 400 years after the Destruction!).
Just before the fast, wooden beams from the First Temple’s destruction were unearthed in Jerusalem. As for me, I prepared for the fast by working on a cross-platform Bluetooth adapter layer. It’s certainly been depressing enough!
Stuff and nonsense:

Perhaps Hizzoner would like to know that making such threats is a federal felony under 18 USC 878 and maybe 18 USC 875. And he might want to read the US Constitution, sec 10 and review as well the Logan Act. Retarded Commie ass-wipe.
- Have you heard of “Flock”? You should be concerned, at the very least.
- Since things are in the process of “heating up” here in the ME, the IDF is on peak alert. Ramat Gan has opened its public bomb-shelters. Oh, joy! But perhaps the new Israeli electronic warfare plane will be deployed soon, so no worries!
Israeli PM candidate Eisenkot in a Hebrew-language interview in 2025 opined that we need to give jobs in Israel to 100k or so Arabs from Judea and Samaria (a.k.a. the “West Bank”) so that they have “economic security”. This is the same failed “conseptsia” our ideologically-retarded leaders used in Gaza, and it’s what our idiot former generals, almost all Leftists, believe. This, despite the excruciating lessons of October 7th. It’s not just our enemies who are stupid.
The weather has been oppressively hot; not because the peak temps of 35C or so are all that bad, but rather that the overnight lows are only around 27C. That doesn’t let the house cool off, so it’s A/C time more or less all the time. Very annoying. However, it seems like we’ll get a bit of a break (in overnight temps) for the next few days.
We need to recover from this week’s fast, so on the docket:
homemade ḥalla,
grilled sinta,
baked potatoes,
roasted vegetables,
steak salad,
and banana cake.
