Esther and I enjoyed a “mini-vacation” this week (as mentioned in passing last week). We abandoned our comfortable home to stay in a somewhat posh hotel, the Isrotel “Cramim”. Chosen by my wife, who realizes that getting me to go at all requires as little effort on my part as possible.

Among its desirable features: proximity to our home (just over half an hour away), the absence of small children, and a rustic environment with great scenery, surrounded by grape vines.

Our first evening there, we dined out at “Naya”, located very close to the hotel, in a place we would never otherwise have thought to go. It was absolutely excellent: the food, the service, the food. We ate every morsel. Not that we don’t, usually; but Esther actually scraped the bottom of one of the dishes we were brought. It was that good. Most definitely worth a return-trip.

The second day, we attended a “wine workshop” with a number of Israelis who clearly knew very little about wine. We were thus the “wine snobs” — which, as you may know, is a somewhat unfair assessment of our snobbery or knowledge of wines. It was an informative session, and we came away with two bottles of a very nice wine we’d never tried before.

Besides all that, Esther enjoyed the pool, a massage, etc. — while I enjoyed the peace and quiet. It was an excellent short vacation!

Various and sundry:

My main client has informed me that I’m “on vacation” until they can wrangle up more funding. That actually works out well for me, as I’m anticipating our upcoming trip to visit the Grands. However, it does seem prudent for me to seek other contracts in the meantime…

This shabbat we’re disappointed to hear we’ll have another heat-wave. Happy to report, however, that it isn’t nearly as powerful as last week’s!

We’ve been invited out for one meal; the rest of shabbat we’ll have:
home-made pita, Asian chicken, rice, roasted vegetables, various salatim, and brownies.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
