Hi again!

No rain this week. In fact, it was very hot and dry. A sharav was blowing all week, which brought us hot desert air from the Saudi peninsula. I am shocked that the Border Patrol let in air from Dubai!

We went to the Ministry of the Interior to get Sarah her passport. Eat your hearts out, Americans: she got it in five minutes. I guess we really do have some expertise in printing passports in this country! Anyway, Esther was interviewed this week for a cooking blog. She'll be making the recipes listed there this shabbat. I've been "technical advisor" to Sarah for her art project. Nice to be useful.

Today we went outside and noticed water drizzling out the downspout. This could only mean someone's water tank on the roof was leaking. Sadly, it was our water tank -- so on Sunday we have to replace it, an expense we were really not looking forward to. But on the bright side, the tank didn't break during Pesach!

The "moderates" in Istanbul are weighing in with their well-considered opinions. According to their president, "Rachel's Tomb" was never Jewish. That's right, that Rachel -- the matriarch of the Jewish people. Of course the ever-changing tenets of Arab historiography are nothing new, but still. Joe Biden tells us we need to take risks for peace. How much it must really suck to be him!

The Left-wing protesters in Sheikh Jarrah probably don't speak Arabic. If they did, they might be just a little tweaked to hear their Arabic counterparts calling them "our dogs". As usual, the blindness of the extreme-Left is truly difficult to comprehend.

This week someone posted to a local mailing list, advertising different wines -- among them, Bartenura Moscato for 50 NIS per bottle. For those of you who aren't aware, you can get the much better Golan Moscato 2009 for 35 NIS per bottle, and support the Israeli economy as well. Sarah gives two thumbs-up to the Golan Moscato -- that's the sweet wine we'll be having at the Seder (for those who drink sweet wines).

Dribs and drabs:

This week we finally have a guest for lunch! The menu will include: asado al horno con papas, cinta al horno, baked tuna in tomato sauce, mushroom soup, "Just cake", eggplant (published recipe as mentioned above), pepper salad (likewise), beet salad. This week we're also trying two new wines: a Tishbi Pinot Noir 2006, and a Gush Etzion Cab/Merlot 2007 (this was a "bonus bottle" the winery gave us, I don't know why).
