¡Bienvenidos, suegro!

My father-in-law arrived safely this week (welcome!). We were concerned that perhaps, because of all the “coronavirus” restrictions being imposed, he wouldn’t be able to land. Fortunately for him, he didn’t have to do a 15hr return flight right away!

Nevertheless, a 15hr flight even just one-way is a very long time to sit in a metal tube. He was happy to unfold his legs and get rested up. So far, that’s what we’ve been doing.

Daniela (and her fellow teachers) have been put on “remote-teaching” duty because of the virus scare. People she knows or is in contact with have been infected, which is “concerning” particularly since Jeremy is taking medication which reduces his immune response. We’re all “concerned”, to say the least. So it’s a bit tense in the neighborhood.

Speaking of which, our synagogue sent out an email telling people that if they’re over 60 (about 60% of the people, if not more), or have been traveling outside Israel, or are immunosuppressed, or diabetic, or ill — they shouldn’t come to services. So I’ll be sitting this one out even though it’s shabbat zakhor. After all, we have a principle in Judaism that “danger to life supersedes shabbat”. Even though to be honest, I think people are probably overreacting; nonetheless prudence is advisable.

The other major news of the week is that we in The Land had our third (!) bout of elections in the space of a year. The Likud came out on top, but not by a very large amount (though still significant). In the meantime, the associated sociopaths in the “opposition” are trying to pass a law to disqualify Netanyahu. So much Democracy! Just not for you bitter-clingers

Ron’s “Believe it or Not!”:

This week I had my periodic blood-workup done. The nurse massacred my arm, but despite that I survived. I’m in reasonably good health, considering. My blood-sugar levels have been decreasing since the doctor changed my medication, and I’ve lost about 12kg in the past year (and am continuing to lose weight). So there’s hope for me yet.

This shabbat my FIL and we (and perhaps others) will enjoy:
homemade ḥalla, chicken schnitzel, breaded eggplant schnitzel, orange soup, roasted yams, broccoli kugel, various salatim, and cookies.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
