Hi, again!

Another week into the counting of the `omer, another exciting week at chez Aaron and in the Land! This week I got a phone call from a headhunter at Skype, who told me, "you come very highly recommended". For what was I recommended so highly? For a software development job (so far, so good) in Stockholm, Sweden. I politely informed her I was not interested in relocating anywhere, let alone to Sweden. I mean, it could be interesting, but no amount of money is worth leaving the Land.

At work, my original boss returned to serve out the rest of his sentence, and the big boss has been very nice to me. Of course, next week's another week. I was able to finish and deploy a major change to our software, without causing any problems (at least so far). Outside work hours, I was able to make a new release of my Android zemanim application. It now supports Hebrew even on machines with broken Hebrew support, and some further stability and display issues were fixed. I'll be adding requested features for the next release, in two weeks B"H.

Esther and Sarah found someone to replace their seamstress (who broke her wrist), and went to get measured and start the process. B"H, they should have the dresses in time for the wedding. This particular seamstress gives a discount if the dresses are given back to her after the event, to be given out as part of a gemaḥ for brides who don't have the means to acquire a dress of their own. I like that very much, and so do my ladies; so the dresses will IY"H be given to the gemaḥ after the wedding. We hope to start the process of getting birkhonim for the wedding prepared next week... not much time left to get things ready!

In the Land, we're apparently headed for early elections despite the stability of the government. Who would win? Netanyahu, by a large margin (but not a large enough one to omit the usual partisan wrangling and back-room deals). Who would lose? Israelis. We have real problems -- Iran, among other things -- and can afford neither the money for early elections, nor the disruption they cause. I understand that Netanyahu wants to cement his hold on power, but really? After all, his main antagonist Tsippi Livni has resigned (and nobody's upset about that). What is really gained by this apart from wasting our resources?

This week our sheseq tree starting giving forth a bountiful crop. So that explains why sheseq figures prominently in the menu this week! It looks like we'll be getting another couple weeks of the fruit, so if you have sheseq recipes please share them!

And a hearty mazal tov to our friend and former inmate in the Exile, Dov-Ber Finkel, on his engagement this week!

We're looking forward to a relaxing shabbat with warm weather. We'll be having one meal out this shabbat, but our menu for the rest of the meals includes: sheseq chicken, lamb and bean stew, rice, salatim, imam bayeldi, date-nut cake, and loquats! (aka sheseq)

Until next week,
shabbat shalom!
