Hi, again!

This week we had visiting “royalty”, among other things. There were “bombshells” in the online security world. And we plodded along, doin’ our thing…

Jerusalem was disrupted this week by the visit of Pope Francis. As the linked article points out, there is much for us to be troubled about with this Pope. One of my gripes is that he decided to fly from Bethlehem to Ben-Gurion Airport, and then fly from there to Jerusalem, when it’s a five or ten minute drive. Of course, his flight plan was meant as a “gesture” confirming that the brigands of Bethlehem are a separate country. Nice going, O Purveyor of Peace, nice going.

One of the more disturbing events in the online security realm occurred this week. The TrueCrypt project shut down abruptly, saying that it “is not secure”. This has caused a lot of head-scratching, and conspiracy theorists have had a field-day. But ultimately, nobody knows what prompted this sudden closure and announcement, and it is potentially disruptive to more than just this one project. After all, it was just weeks ago we had the “Heartbleed” bug in OpenSSL.

In Our World, things are moving along. Esther and I are getting our website in order, getting prepared for our new employee, trying to make progress on our development project(s). We’ve been very busy. And to make things more interesting, our washing machine decided to become spastic. So hopefully we’ll get it repaired at the beginning of the week... if not, things could get pretty stinky around here.

Sarah’s also been very busy, and will be relaxing at her friend’s house this shabbat. We’ll miss her, of course! Next week is the holiday of shavu`ot, and Dinah is planning on joining us then. She claims she’ll make a cheesecake for us…

And this week we stopped off at the shuq to refresh our vegetable supply. There were fresh ḥummus pods, something we’ve never cooked; so that’s on the menu this week. The same vendor also had some hot peppers. When we asked for some, he said: “a kilo?”. Esther said that was too much, but he still loaded a bag full. So we’re blasting some peppers this week. Hopefully just the peppers.

Just me and the missus this week, Sarah’s at a friend’s house. So we’ll have:
grilled lamb-chops, roasted rosemary potatoes, garlicky green beans, steamed fresh chickpeas (not fake ḥummus!), meatballs and rice, blasted peppers, salmon steaks, and banana bread.

Until next week,
shabbat shalom and ḥag sameaḥ!
