May 15th — sorry, no devar torah this week.
It was a really tough week. Right after shabbat was over we found out my sister Joy had passed away, so we have been “sitting shiv’a” all week. We are still sitting, and will for a portion of shabbat as well.
Joy (רינה בת משה יוסף) was an incredibly gifted woman, who became a veterinary doctor at the age of 22. Her career spanned only a quarter century, but she touched many people with her empathy and highly skilled care of the animals entrusted to her.
She is survived by her son, our wonderful nephew Chaim; and by my mother and brother and me. She is and will be missed. May her memory be a blessing; יהי זיכרה ברוך.
As I said, we’ve been sitting shiv’a, so we have done very little this week except receive visitors giving their condolences. I won’t detail any of that but to say that everyone has expressed their condolences to the rest of the bereaved, and give their very best regards.
