Another busy week chez Aaron.
Esther and I both had the mechanic give our respective vehicles their yearly tune-ups, as well as processing them for renewing the vehicle licenses. Yes, you have to pay them extra to do that, but it’s a lot better than sitting at the processing station for a long while, getting yelled at by the “vehicle inspectors”. So we were able to sit at home and work while the mechanic’s staff did whatever needed doing. Money well spent as far as I’m concerned.
Then, we took Mom for a doctor visit to see what’s up with the toes. This time we went to a different GP than her usual (the usual wasn’t available), and we really liked this doctor. She was very thorough and gentle, and spent a considerable amount of time examining Mom and asking all sorts of questions. She is also the second doctor we’ve seen in the space of the past two months, who is a religious (Jewish) immigrant from Germany. I didn’t think there were very many religious Jews in Germany, but we met two literally one after the other.
In any event, after seeing her, we went to the nurses’ station where the head nurse, an assistant nurse, and another doctor gave Mom’s feet an intensive examination and bandaged her up again. They, as well as the first doctor, gave us instructions to follow, and we’ve got a repeat visit this coming Sunday.
Finally, I took Mom for her periodic eye-poke, which she always thoroughly enjoys. This time (in precise duplication of all previous times) she said, “it’s never hurt so much!”. Now I suppose it is possible that each time it hurts a bit more, but I don’t really believe that. In particular because all the other patients at that clinic kept saying how gentle the attending doctor (who is actually Mom’s doctor as well) is. It’s just that getting a needle in the eye is never going to be pleasant, I’m pretty sure.
Things you might not have heard:
- How bad is plastic, really? Well, “it’s complicated”.
- In an ironic display of utter ignorance, Benetton has created a unisex ḥijab. I’m guessing not too many Muslim men will go for this fashion accessory.
- An Austrian brothel offers free entry if the customer agrees to get a COVID jab. Because of course, why not? I’m just saying that if you need to use sex to entice people to get a jab, perhaps you need to reconsider things a bit.
- Apparently, up to 40% of “Gen Z” identify as “LGBT”. The question is: “why?”.
- On Women in Mathematics.
When not engaged in medical activities, I’ve been working mostly on one of my clients’ projects. During the course of which it transpired that the person from whom I’m getting marching orders had things backwards, has reconsidered and reversed course, so most of what I’d done so far is irrelevant and needs revamping. Praise the Creator, I get paid by the hour…
Esther has been preparing for her upcoming trip back to Argentina, where she’s got a lot of family business to take care of. She’ll be gone an entire month, which is probably not long enough though far too long. So this will be our last shabbat together for a bit, and I hope she is successful in doing what needs doing and doesn’t concern herself too much with my pitiful state. Seriously: have a good and successful trip, my love!
This shabbat the menu includes:
homemade ḥalla,
chicken picatta,
baked kibbe,
roasted veggies,
various salatim,
and marble cake.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
