A huge “shout-out” to our family and friends who have been concerned about us, asking if we’re OK. We appreciate your thoughts (and prayers!) very much, and can only say that so far, we’re OK. Our town is too unimportant to merit rocket fire, and though there are some “hostiles” in the area, it’s mostly been very quiet. I’m far more concerned with the safety of our family and friends in the Exile than with our own.

There are some advantages to living in a rather dull town.

As I mentioned last week, Sarah and Yarin are (still) having a blast in Japan. They keep sending pictures of the various meals they’ve been served, and I can’t help but think it all looks too beautiful to eat! They’ll be flying to NY soon and staying with Daniela and Jeremy. I do believe it will be Yarin’s first “Thanksgiving”, American style.

The list (comes for everyone):

I finally awakened to the fact that I’m paying quite a lot for a server every month, for my business, but the revenue it generates barely offsets its costs. So I switched to a cheaper plan, but that gives me a much less capable server. Therefore, I’m planning to replace it with an in-house server running on a tiny Raspbery Pi in my office, in a couple months. Then I can reduce the server cost to just the insignificant amount of electricity it uses, while having a somewhat better server under my complete control.

Cheapness is a virtue!

In honor of this week’s Torah portion, “toldot”, we’re having red-lentil soup. I’d be happy to have that soup every week, but it’s not to be.

The weather was pleasantly on the cooler side for a change, but we didn’t get the rain we were promised. Better luck next time! It’s supposed to be pleasant for shabbat and rain is “supposed” to be here at the start of the week…

This shabbat we're invited out for one meal; for the rest our menu features:
homemade ḥalla, red lentil soup, baked chicken, roasted veggies, rice, various salatim, and cookies.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom

May God grant strength and victory to our brave troops, and sorely needed wisdom to our leaders, amen!
