Oct 9th (See this week's devar torah) Comments or questions? Click here!

We finished off the “holiday season” this week, with Shemini Atseret. We were too tired to do anything, so we just relaxed and enjoyed the holiday. The following day, as I started to disassemble our sukkah, it started to rain. There was a downpour strong enough to make all the sukkah walls wet enough to require drying out before taking them down. Well, at least it didn’t rain while we needed to be in the sukkah!

But it’s never boring in the Land. I don’t want to alarm my readers in the Exile, but we’ve had a week or more of violence here, instigated by our “peace partners” and once again proving that “the territories” include all of Israel, not just the bits to the east of the pre-1967 armistice line. Knowing you don’t see any of this on your “main-stream media” outside Israel, I felt a duty to update you. However, I’ll wager that this item does make your news. “Man bites dog” — gripping copy!

In more positive news, we released version 1.1.4 of 8th. At the same time, we made efforts to blitz the social networks and gain more traction, and have indeed seen a strong response. We’ve had more downloads this week (so far) than we’ve had in any previous week for the last six months. Don’t know if it’s the new support for fully-encrypted databases or just the continual effort, but it looks like things are starting to pick up. About time! And in late-breaking news: someone in China apparently tried to register a domain “aaron-tech.cn” (we own “aaron-tech.com”). You know you’ve hit the Big Time when people try to take your domain name!

Yesterday I went to the hospital’s “radiology department” to have a CT scan of my chest and abdomen, to try to determine the cause of the chronic pain I’ve been having (I mentioned this a while ago; this is the follow-up). Because we live in a racist, apartheid country, more than half the people in the hospital (patients as well as staff) were Arabs despite only being 20% of the population. Anyway, I got there two hours before the scan so that they could dose me up with some delightful tasting “contrast” stuff. The scan itself only took fifteen minutes or so, and after the scan I was able to take home my very own disc containing the CT imagery. Total elapsed time was close to four hours.

Being the curious type, I loaded up the images on my computer and carefully reviewed them. After extensive review, my conclusion was that I’ve got a lot of goopy parts inside, and it’s good that I’ve got lots of skin and stuff to keep it all out of sight. I couldn’t see anything obviously wrong, like a wrench in the wrong spot or something. I guess I’ll have to wait for the professionals to render their judgements…

Sarah’s gone off for a short vacation to Greece, and will rejoin us early next week. She needed to “unwind” before the school-year resumed; we hope she enjoys herself and stays safe.

Esther’s been involved with handling our taxes. She is not a big fan of taxes.

The weather’s been nice and cool, but is supposed to get warm again. Just in time for Sarah’s return to the Land.

Missing Sarah, but we’ve got friends joining us for dinner and other friends joining for lunch. We’ll have:
chicken soup, roasted chicken with potatoes, salatim, cholent, homemade ḥallah, and apple cake.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
