The week included yom hakippurim (the Day of Atonement), which is primarily marked by a 24+ hour fast, and almost that many hours of prayer services. But not this year!

Well, the fast was still the same. Since we didn’t leave our home to attend any services anywhere, we prayed privately, in the comfort of our own home. As a result, our services were much, much shorter. But even those who did go out to prayer services reported that due to the lock-down and general paranoia over infection, services were shortened drastically. The people I spoke with approved that notion wholeheartedly! I think a change will be forthcoming in future years…

In any event, the rest of the week we all did those things we normally do, though in a restricted mode and with appropriate protection and social-distancing. Not much exciting to share.

Videos galore:

The MSM (mainstream media) has really been working overtime, repeatedly claiming that Trump "refused to condemn" white supremacists. That of course is completely false, as reviewing the transcript of the debate shows clearly. They seem quite happy to ignore the dozens of previous times Trump has condemned racism on camera and in interviews. It’s become the theatre of the absurd, and the MSM has truly lost any pretension of neutrality or of upholding journalistic standards. That’s a real problem, in a liberal republic, and we should all be seriously concerned.

When Trump asked the "moderator" who, specifically, he wanted him to condemn, the name "Proud Boys" was mentioned. The "Proud Boys" are a lot of things, but they aren’t racist. Their members include blacks, Hispanics, and Asians. C’mon, MSM, you can do better than that! Or perhaps you really can’t.

In local news: our restrictions here in the Land are going to be tightened and there’s no end in sight. Good thing we can get wine and food delivered!

I’ve got to finish up the sukka, we’re operating in a “condensed mode” this year, since we’ll not have any guests at all. So our sukka is half the usual size. Hopefully next year we’ll be able to return to full capacity!

It’s shabbat and yom-ṭov this week! The three of us will take our meals in the sukka all week, thank you very much. The menu includes:
homemade ḥalla, orange soup, stuffed vegetables and/or cabbage, noodles, chicken salad, various salatim, and apple cake.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom and ḥag sameaḥ!
