I knew I couldn’t be the only person who hates Google’s new logo! Some of you know I’m a bit “fussy” when it comes to typography. The new logo, in my opinion, looks like it was designed by a kid using Microsoft Word and a box of crayons. What were they thinking? It is ugly and repulsive. There, I got it off my chest.

The most impressive news of the week is that Sarah went to a “by invitation only” event at her school to meet and hear Natalie Portman, the famous Israeli-born actress. She (Sarah) was pretty excited about it, and I was jealous. Oh, well… at least I now have “one degree of separation” from said actress.

Only slightly less impressive was our release of version 1.1.2 of 8th. We’ve received lots of positive feedback on our 1.1.1 release, and a few people have reached out to assist us in getting wider acceptance.

In current events:

  • An Iran “this-is-not-a-treaty” supporter from PBS publicly mocks Netanyahu. And gets slapped down for it, B”H
  • In a head-scratcher, the “pro-Israel” far-Left “Jewish” group “J Street” appoints a Muslima as their president. It makes sense, actually, since “J Street” is as Jewish as the Pope is, and as pro-Israel as Mahmoud Abbas
  • Oops! 2.64 trillion more trees than previously estimated. We must be deforesting the planet! Or not…
  • Alternative energy fail: lack of wind means 6% less energy produced from 9% more facilities
  • Good-ish news: Israel “slashes” taxes. Well, if reducing VAT by 1% and corporate income tax by 1.5% can really be termed “slashing”. Still, it’s a positive development in our excessively taxed country.

Our government just appointed MK Rabbi Litzman as “Minister of Health”. He has no medical background. Not only that, but in the past twenty years there have only been two “Ministers of Health” who’ve had any medical background. Isn’t it about time we appoint officials who have an appropriate background, rather than on the basis of political chess?

The weather has been the typical summer heat, and looks to be continuing.

This shabbat it’s the three of us. We’ll have:
egg-drop soup, garlic eggplant, sautéed bok-choy, mushroom stir-fry, zucchini quiche, salatim, potato bourekas, mushroom sauce (for the bourekas), and fruit.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
