September 28th

We’ve had a mostly lazy and restful week, starting with preparations for and then observance of, the holiday of sukkot. Since it lasts for seven days (with another holiday on the eighth day!), we’ve just been chillin' and enjoying the relative calm.

Sarah joined us for the holiday, which was a delightful addition to our sukkah! Daniela and Jeremy built their first sukkah this year, and have been getting good use from it. Ours is the same one we’ve had for many years, and it fulfills its purpose just fine.

As usual, we had various guests join us over the holiday and intermediate days. This shabbat we’re being joined by my nephew Chaim and his family. The sukkah is big enough, I hope.

Various news items:

Speaking of Google, a prominent cryptographer explains he’s leaving Chrome, the web-browser from Google. I’m following his lead, switching to Firefox (having tried “Brave” and finding it lacks features I like, and is not quite stable). Here’s another article about Google and authoritarianism.

I talked about the “Code of Conduct” controversy last week. Here’s more; and more; and yet more. OK, I’ll stop bothering you with that stuff for the time-being.

Not much to add this week. We’re getting ready for shabbat and the holiday on Monday. But we’re kind of holiday’ed out, you know what I mean? The weather has been pretty nice, but for shabbat and onward it’s going to be hotter than we’d like. Such is life!

My nephew and his budding family are joining us for shabbat! We’ll serve up:
ḥalla, beef cholent, shepherd’s pie, baked lamb ribs, broccoli-mushroom kugel, various salatim, and honey cake.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom and ḥag sameaḥ!
