And thou shalt make fifty clasps of gold, and couple the curtains one to another with the clasps, that the tabernacle may be one whole (Ex 26:6)
The beginning of the book of Exodus is filled with stories, miracles and wonders -- but its end is full of details concerning the Tabernacle. There are many people who find it difficult to listen to the Torah reading of these portions which deal with the Tabernacle, and particularly when the Torah details each and every bit of it.
But one must pay close attention to the fact that the Torah gives the same level of scrutiny to the small items as to the big ones. One may wonder why God saw fit to command in such great detail regarding the handiwork of this structure? After all, the building would not remain through the generation, and He, after all, does not need a building of any kind!
Rather the Torah wishes to convey a message: that one must pay attention to the small details of the work he is performing, and not dismiss any. How much more so when he is performing a commandment! Because the beam is as important as the curtain to the overall building -- and the "minor" commandment as important as the "major" one for one's future reward in the next world. Only by scrupulousness in our performance of the commandments can we build a Tabernacle which will be one, in which we may call, "God is One".
