Help!! My computer has a virus, what do I do?

DON'T PANIC!

If you think your computer may have a virus, there are a few things you can do. First of all, do NOT click on any "pop-up" windows which tell you you have a virus! Those are usually phishing scams and will try to steal money from you.

If you don't HAVE to have the internet right now, unplug your computer from the 'net. Shut down your network connection.

The first thing to do is to stop the offending malware program(s). If you can, press Ctrl+Alt+Del (on Windows XP) to bring up the 'Windows Security' dialog, and click on the 'Task manager' button. IF that does not work, try Ctrl+ESC and then "Run..." and type in "taskmgr". IF that ALSO doesn't work, download (you obviously need the internet) and run Process Explorer from SysInternals.

Look in the list of running applications
