Sarah and Yarin are on a short visit to the Land, and we went to visit them in Tel Aviv this week. Though they were very tired (having just landed a few hours before), we still had a nice lunch with them. Hopefully we’ll get to see them a time or two more before they return to the USA.
The highlight of our outing in T"A was, of course, being with Sarah and Yarin. But a close second was when, on our return trip, we spoke Spanish to some Peruvians (who live in our town) and they asked me, “what part of Buenos Aires are you from?”
Speaking of the USA: apparently the Iran war did bring about “regime-change”—just not in Iran! I’m afraid the USA I grew up in has ceased to exist. The Red-Green alliance made serious inroads, and I’m frankly extremely concerned for my coreligionists in the USA. It’s going to get much worse, in my opinion; and much sooner than I had previously thought.
Just going to put out there, that if it’s a race between JD Vance and Kamala Harris in 2028, I’m voting for the Sweet Meteor of Death.
Various and sundry:
- Feiglin calls to dissolve the Knesset due to election interference. The CEC ignores the claims despite an ongoing investigation into foreign influence (and corruption, etc.)
- Uri: democratic representation does not confer the right to govern. A lesson we would be wise to learn. And “Israel, Trump, and the art of losing without being defeated”.
- Lisa: judicial reform? Oh, please.
- Andrew Fox: two weeks of bombing Iran to achieve what?, and after the Republican rout.
- Jenin, Jenin!
- Clifton Duncan on the great n*ggerization.
- Whatever you think of the Arabs, I see no reason to take away their hobbies!
A question for my Christian friends: which is worse, the sin of “simony” or that of “garfunkely”? Don’t worry, there’s lots more where that came from!
We were otherwise occupied most of the week. Esther, as usual, with taxes; and I with various projects. We tried to make a go of collecting our olives for processing, but too many of them were infested with “olive fruit fly” and so we had to abandon that plan for now. Next year, however, I’ll deploy insect netting (among other recommendations) so we can hopefully get a decent harvest.
Oh, and regarding the Israeli elections: the President (of Israel) will announce on Sunday to whom he is giving the nod to attempt to form a government. My bet is that we’ll have repeat elections in a few months…
It’s supposed to rain on shabbat, so depending on whether or not that happens, and whether or not it’s a real rain, we might not venture out. Remains to be seen…
This shabbat Esther’s back in charge! We and our guests will probably enjoy:
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
