February 10th
We had an action-packed week. Well, maybe not really “action” packed, but we were very busy. Business was busy, the world goes crazy, and so too the weather!
The weather this week started off nice. It suddenly turned cold, and we got a surprise rain-storm. Then it turned warm again. Then it turned cold again. It’s as unpredictable as the current POTUS!
Speaking of whom: wow. Just wow. The new POTUS is either a complete lunatic, or an evil genius — I could see it either way. The lack of consistency in his spoken and Twittered statements, and their tone, seem indicative of the first conclusion. But I’m put in mind of the way stage-magicians work: they wave a hand to distract your attention while the actual working of the “magic” goes on right in front of your eyes — but you don’t notice that. Trump has been busily churning away doing things, but people are concentrating on his often idiotic public statements.
The anarcho-communists violently hijacked a guest lecture at UC Berkeley, but the press soft-pedaled that. The free-speech wars have begun, and it’s not at all clear what the results are going to be. As the public becomes more and more polarized, while simultaneously becoming even less tolerant of diversity of thought, I’m afraid we’re witnessing the Balkanization of the West.
And then we in the Land have our own set of issues. The government tore down the village of Amona, despite the Supreme Court not having given a final ruling; presumably, to appease the “world”. Or, perhaps, to appease the Israeli Left. In any case, as usual the gov’t is slow on fulfilling the promises it made the residents. Then we’ve had several days of protests by groups of Haredim blocking traffic in Jerusalem. At least we still have free-speech, after a fashion.
As for us personally: we’re fine, B”H! I started a new contract this past week, so I’ve got two running concurrently. In the meantime, we’re trying to negotiate a third one. Not to mention: maintenance on other contracts. And some of my “8th” customers were busy reporting issues and making suggestions. All this means that I’ve had no free time and am getting less sleep than I need. So I definitely look forward to shabbat!
Some things to ponder:
- TSA knows its program is ineffective. Surprised?
- Genetically-modified Salmonella destroys cancer cells in tests.
- If true, this is interesting and perhaps a good thing.
- What if Apple made humans?
- And after that, we never spoke again
The weather is supposed to be cool and cloudy for shabbat, becoming rainy for the start of the week.
This shabbat we’ll be joined B”H by Chaim, and Ariele, and little Netzach! We’ll have:
homemade ḥalla,
roast beef,
grilled chicken breast,
fried tofu,
roasted potatoes,
Harley Davidson,
steamed broccoli,
roasted veggies,
barley soup,
various salatim,
and dried fruit in honor of Tu BeShevat.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
Jew Haiku:
The Harley mention to see if you pay attention
