June 26th (See this week's devar torah) Comments or questions? Click here!

It was another busy week in the Aaron household. Our Argentine family was here this week as well, and just this morning resumed their travels. Next stop (for them): Italy. We wish them a safe journey and a good time, and hope they come back soon.

Between trips abroad, going to work (for my non-paying client) and the visitors, I’ve had little time to make progress with 8th these past several weeks. I need to get back in the groove and make progress. We’ve got some meetings set up in the next few weeks which might be strategically interesting — we’ll report on them as they occur. In the meantime, it’s back to work.

I have begun to despair of the human race. In the past month or so we’ve seen:

Why aren’t people content with who they are? How can they function in the real world when they are living in a web of fantasy? And why are we asked to indulge their fantasies of self-delusion? The inmates are running the asylum.

Were I to claim that I was the legitimate heir of the British throne, I would be laughed out of town. But isn’t it enough that I feel I am the heir? What’s reality have to do with it? Who are you to judge my reality?

I sincerely hope that the people who build our infrastructure and medical devices and airplanes don’t have such a weak grasp of reality that they think that wishing for something makes it so. However, I see so much wishful thinking being passed off as “narrative” that I am supposed to “respect” because who are you to foist your white-male-patriarchal values on others?, that I want to chuck-up my lunch. That’s my reality, just deal with it.

Ayn Rand famously declared, “Existence exists”. There is such a thing as an objective reality, and there is a price to be paid for attempting to evade it. When society reaches a point where people are penalized for commenting that reality is what it is, that society is not long for this world. That’s not to say that one should rudely shatter another’s misconceptions, but neither should one be required to cater to others’ fantasies.

I think our Argentine family had a good time while they were here. We prepared a going-away asado, during which I received approbation from my younger brother-in-law for the design of my grill. So take that, haters (you know who you are)!

The weather is pleasant, a nice cool wind blowing from Jerusalem towards us. It’s supposed to warm up over shabbat, though. We look forward to the day of rest!

Our guests are gone, so we’re back to the nuclear family plus Dinah. The menu includes:
homemade ḥalla, BBQ chicken and lamb, salatim, veggie cholent, rice, egg salad, tuna salad, potato salad, and fruit crumble.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
