We made it! The trip was uneventful if long; Daniela picked us up from the airport, and we arrived early Sunday to the excited embraces of the Grands. What better way to start the day?!?
We also made it in time for Esther to enjoy the World Cup Final, and witness the victory of her birth-country. Even I was forced to admit it was a good game (and those of you who know me, know how little I care about sports).
Once here, we’ve tried to maximize the time we spend with the Grands. One day we were their guests at their school, where we read to their classes while awkwardly perched on tiny chairs. They were very excited to have us see their school!
Neither of us have done any paying work. Just in case you were wondering.
You may not have known:
- Sharks are oppressed by white men.
- Archaeological proof of the biblical Kings of Israel.
- A “Roomba” recorded a woman on a toilet. I would make a joke about the robot revolution, but it’s not a laughing matter.
- Why encrypted backup is so important.
- Holly asks, “Is this happening… where you are?”
I’m sure there are a lot of things I should have mentioned, and tomorrow morning after my coffee I’ll have remembered them. But I’m writing this Thu night US time so my peeps in The Land will be able to see it at their accustomed time. Apologies…
The weather here has been a lot colder than back home, hovering a few degrees above freezing. But a serious storm system is moving in, and temperatures are going to drop some 30 degrees. That’s crazy!
We’re at Daniela’s, where the shabbat menu includes:
homemade ḥalla,
roasted chicken,
fish in tomato sauce,
roasted asparagus,
rice,
cholent,
roasted eggplant,
roasted peppers,
spicy ḥummus,
various salatim,
and ḥanuka cookies.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
