Hi, again!

As usual, lately, it’s been a very busy week. Before I begin, I want to wish my mother a speedy and complete recovery from the whatever-it-was that put her in the hospital this week. רפואה שלימה, אמא! Aside from that unfortunate bit of excitement, Esther and Sarah and I have been busy as usual, Sarah in her manner, and we in ours.

Sarah resumed school this week, and was involved with her filming and editing and what-not. As part of her studies this time, she had friends from school over working on a project. And as with every other set of friends she’s had over from school, they forgot some of their things. This time, one of the girls lost her wallet. I don’t know, there’s some flakiness going on…

Esther and I made the decision this week that it made much more sense for me to devote 100% of my time to developing our company and its products. So on Monday I gave my boss “notice” that I intended to resign. Since he was in “milu`im” (military reserves duty) that day, I had to tell him by email. When he came back the following day, he told me he hadn’t noticed my email of Monday, and that he was very sad about my decision. Later on, we spoke, and he tried very hard to dissuade me from leaving — but finally agreed that he would try to convince the CEO to let me continue as a “special assignments” consultant. So far, I haven’t heard from the CEO, and I’ll have to discuss this with him on Monday when I’m back in the office.

Now, what I’m really hoping for is to be able to quit that job entirely, since it takes so much of my mental energy and doesn’t help me reach my own goals. True, it provides an income, but B”H there are other sources of such. In any event, since I am there solely as a contractor and not as an employee, I can legally quit “at-will”, but I do feel I should give them two-weeks to help close out any loose-strings, and to avoid leaving them on an unpleasant note. Next week I’ll let you know how it turned out.

Since I can’t give you business details right now, I’ll divert your attention with other stuff:

  • A woman was attacked in a bar for wearing Google Glass. While I don’t condone whippin’ on women, still — you have to be pretty unconcerned about the world around you to wear something that says, “hit me”.
  • The PA owes Israel $389 million in unpaid electric bills. Remind me: what is the PA doing with the $billions it receives? And why can’t I also ignore my electric bill without consequences?
  • The US State Department is rejecting Israeli visa requests in record numbers this year. Not politically motivated, I’m sure.
  • And my favorite harangue: improper coding in WhatsApp lead to security problems, as do possibly intentional oversights in iOS. The good thing is that these sorts of issues are being “outed” much more frequently, which means (I hope) that security practices will become more stringent and the public more aware.

Just the three of us are having a simple shabbat this time. In honor thereof we’ll be consuming:
zucchini mushroom soup, baked chicken, baked acorn squash, cauliflower kugel, roasted eggplant with teḥina, roasted peppers, carrot salad, red cabbage salad, kohlrabi salad, rice with lentils, barley-sweet-potato stew, pumpkin cake and rugelach.

Until next week,
shabbat shalom!
