February 20th (See this week's devar torah) Comments or questions? Click here!

It’s been a cold week in the Holy Land. Snow started falling last night in Jerusalem and reached Ma’ale Adummim as well! Snow in the desert! Now it’s hailing and we may continue to get snow. One way or the other, we’re in for a cold and wet shabbat. Esther also had a cold week, though hers was considerably colder than ours. On the other hand, New York City is much better prepared for cold weather than we are here. For one thing, “central heating”. Yeah.

This is the second time in the past year Esther has gone on a trip. I think I’m going to restrict any future trips she may take to three days or less. Just sayin’.

Sarah and I stayed close to home this week, and just kept doing what we always do. Not much, just working in solitude.

We did release an instructional video on Factorization in 8th. We also released a few more articles, and kept working on our “zemanim” application (and finding other issues to fix in 8th). The beat goes on.

Some items of interest and/or controversy (what?!?):

  • Varda Epstein’s article about European Jewry today.
  • Rudy Giuliani rips Obama. Not that it’s hard to do that.
  • In a head-scratch-making declaration, Obama says everbody’s got to learn how to code. Sure, you go for it, O Most Eloquent One. First, though, people gotta learn how to do ’rithmetic and spell they names right.
  • And more random acts, this time in Copenhagen.

I for one am glad shabbat is almost here. I need the down-time, although for once I’m sad we don’t have a fireplace. Hot cocoa and a blazing fire. I guess we could set things on fire, but it’s just not the same…

This week it’s just Sarah and me. We’ll try to sustain ourselves with good cheer and:
mushroom-barley soup, vegetable stir-fry, rice, pargiot, spicy Chinese eggplant, roasted peppers, veggie cholent, Israeli salad, various salatim, and chocolate-chip cookies.

Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
