A quiet yet busy week, for the most part. One of the things we found out last week (from the patent attorney) was that we might need a license to export our 8th product; that is, to ship it outside of Israel. She told us we should urgently take care of it.
So last Friday I sent an email to the government office in charge, and received an answer back on Sunday that indeed, we need a license. Or rather, we need to undergo the licensing procedure. It turns out that Israel has a law restricting export of software or hardware which incorporate encryption. None of us had any idea this was the case! I knew that the US used to have such a law, but that it was severely relaxed in recent years. In any case, we applied for the license on Sunday, and it will be a few weeks until we know exactly what our status is. Very frustrating, but better to know now than to get a knock on the door in six months…
Apart from that, we continued our product development, fixing bugs and adding features. As we work on the new version of zemanim, we find issues here and there which need to be addressed. That effort is coming along very nicely, so we look forward to making a release in the next week or so (of the new zemanim application as well as an updated 8th).
We’ve also adjusted our business strategy a little, shifting more emphasis to the web (e.g. license) side, and less to the seeking of projects (though we’ll continue to do both).
Enough about work. Around the region:
- It’s almost Purim. Thus the Israeli (political) party lists have been finalized
- Our Closest Ally™ refuses to meet with our Prime Minister (but found time to be interviewed by GloZell). What a petty, petty POTUS. A better acronym would be POS.
- In the meantime, those fun-loving “freedom-fighters” of Hezbollah start a confrontation on our northern border. Apparently they want Netanyahu to win the election.
- The West redefines itself to death
- The Israel Electric Company finally (partially) cuts off electricity to the PA. It only took a debt of half a billion dollars. My bet is the Israeli Supreme Court will force them to resume the supply.
So the weather has warmed up, getting ready for “Tu BeShevat”. It’s pretty interesting to see that the trees really do know when the 15th of the month of Shevat is! Beautiful almond trees are blossoming all over, flowers are pushing out their colored heads and the skies are clear. Supposedly we’ll have nice weather through Monday.
This shabbat we’re back to the super-nukular family. Just Esther and I.
We’ve been invited out for dinner, but for the rest we’ll prepare:
traditional cholent
and salatim. What, you expected a lot more?
