My office-cleaning spree continued this week. I’m now nearly 40% done! I’ve found new places to stash things, so that’s a plus; and there’s more room in which to move. Now, if I could only find the things I relocated…
Esther’s iPad died, and since fixing it would be almost as expensive as replacing it, we’ve ordered a replacement. In the meantime, she’s suffering from iPad-withdrawal syndrome. Most unpleasant!
The Rambam shiurim proceed apace, and I’m getting better at managing the Zoom feed and uploading the subsequent videos to YouTube. Yay, me. Now I need to find a way to be less nervous before said sessions, and more fluid in presentation.
And, I fixed a bug in “8th” which has been bugging me for quite a while.
We finally went to the nursery and got fresh vegetation. So I’m replacing old growth and planting new bits. I’m also replacing the irrigation lines, which I’d planned on doing a couple weeks back but… well, you know.
A quibble: people using the word “mitsvah” to mean “good deed” (when it actually means “commandment”). For instance: “helping protect the Druze in Syria is a mitsvah”. No, no it isn’t, though it’s a “good deed” and possibly one for which we will reap benefits in future (or, perhaps, the opposite).
What is going on?
- Did you know about the Dutch plan to colonise southern Australia?
- Is a three sided coin possible?
- Elmo goes on an antisemitic rant on Twitter. Really.
- Uri Geller (remember him?) claims that Israel used a secret group of military psychics (and AI) to attack Iran.
- The Gaza war is not WWII.
- And violence spreads in Syria, and more.
I cannot fathom why anyone thought Jolani was actually a peaceful, Western-leaning, modern leader who eschewed his al-Qaeda past. Since taking power, his forces have massacred Alawites and murdered Christians and Druze. Now the IDF has stepped in to prevent further atrocities, since the entire world has remained silent. And, of course, once we got involved, “the world” started bitching and moaning. So predictable.
Since I’m not a prophet, I cannot say what our involvement in SY will ultimately lead to; however, I’m pleased that at least we are upholding the promises we made to our own Druze citizens. And “the world” can get stuffed.
It looks like this shabbat will be relatively pleasant, and that next week will bring a long heat-wave. Well, we’ll take it one day at a time!
This shabbat, we plan on enjoying:
homemade ḥalla,
baked chicken,
vichyssoise sans crème,
roasted vegetables,
various salatim,
and a stunning variety of summer fruits.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
