Dear Readers: it turns out I didn’t return home completely unscathed. While there, I was given a cold by Master Joseph; but I got over that and thought I was in the clear. However, during or just after our return I came down with a second cold that developed into a sinus infection. I’m still not completely up to snuff, though not sniffling any more…
Despite being at more or less 25% capacity this week, I did manage to do a few things. I set up online “Zoom” lessons for anyone interested in learning some Rambam. I did some “emergency” repairs to our drip-irrigation lines (still need to do more, though).
Esther’s fine, by the way: she doesn’t seem to be as susceptible as I am to others’ snot fragments.
Public service announcement: you cannot possibly hate the legacy media enough, whether BBC, ABC, Reuters, or any of the other “names”. We’ve seen, just in the past couple weeks, numerous instances where complete fictions were reported as fact by mainstream news organizations. Despite subsequent investigations proving they were fictions, most have not retracted. And of course the damage was done, and there were consequences for the Jews.
They could, of course, simply have done some investigation as journalists are supposed to do, but nah, that would be inconceivable!
Some things:
- Erin Molan on the many media lies which are fueling various antisemitic attacks.
- The cavalry isn’t coming to save us: it’s time for Jews to save themselves.
- We (Israelis) will not soon forget which airlines abandoned us…
- … but my bothering el presidente Milei seems to have paid off: El Al is launching direct flights to Argentina. ¡Que alegría!
- Kisin explains why Americans don’t understand Putin.
- Jonah Platt interviews the “Babka King”.
- Somewhat nerdy: a thread on the FDA’s falling victim to bad science.
Because of my being very much under the weather, last shabbat and the following holiday of shavuot were not as much fun as they could have been. I’m hopeful this coming shabbat I’ll be doing a lot better. Fortunately I’ve got a very helpful “better half”, who takes care of me.
It’ll be hot, so here’s to working A/C!
This shabbat we’re looking forward to:
homemade ḥalla,
baked chicken,
bamia con carne,
rice,
various salatim,
and fruit tart.
Until next time,
shabbat shalom!
