A busy week, as usual. We refilled our larder, which we’d neglected doing after our return from the US. Esther was taxed with taxation reporting, I was fixing bugs and taking names. I went for my yearly eye exam and was told I don’t need to do anything just yet. Esther had a followup with her doctor and was told she’s on the right path. All good.
BTW: I’m recovered from my various maladies, thank you for asking!
We went to the cheap-o store (”Max Stock”) where we got all manner of things which were on our “lists” (or not). I was very pleased to find out they do sell caulking sealant, for a lot less than the hardware store I usually use. Good to know.
And, I found more relatives: a fourth-cousin (once removed) who lives literally just a few blocks from me!
Various:
- My friend on, among other things, the indescribable joy of shopping at Rami Levy.
- What is the correct pejorative to describe Piers Morgan writing an article “in defence of himself”? I’m torn between “twat”, “prat”, “imbecile”, and others less suitable for polite company. Please let me know what you think!
- Greta and other useless idiots went their way to join Hamas. Sadly, it didn’t end as they expected. Or did it? Also: the “March to Gaza” encountered the Egyptian security forces. Darwin is chuckling, somewhere.
- So, you want to be a physicist? There are worse choices.
- On troll proofs that π == 4, etc.
It looks like we’ve run out of patience with the Iran “talks”. There’s a whole lot of chatter, some of it quite well sourced, indicating an “active” time coming shortly. Fortunately, we’ve got defenses which are only improving. And also, fortunately, we did replenish our larder…
Welp, that escalated quickly! We got a wake-up call from the “Home Front Command” at 03:30, then another some time later telling us to “stay close to shelter” and “don’t travel unless necessary”. So I guess that changes our plans this morning (and you can probably tell I write some of the blog earlier in the week).
Of course, the world is full of antisemites. The FBI and DHS are warning of heightened risk to Jewish communities in the USA, so please stay alert! If things go how we’re expecting they might, life in the Diaspora will get much more difficult, very quickly.
As for us? Well, we’ll have a bottle (or several) of wine, some good food and company, do some praying, and let the world sort itself out (or not) over shabbat.
We’ve settled into the usual ME summer pattern: hot days, cooling in the evenings. So the A/C will (hopefully) do its duty!
This shabbat our guests and we will dine upon:
homemade ḥalla,
barbecued chicken,
roasted veg,
slow cooked roast,
baked yams,
various salatim,
and cookies.
